Hello all

In order to get my a51 to charge I have to wiggle the cable/plug connected to the phone. I have taken it to a repair shop and they have tried 3 new internal plugs [sorry don't know the tech wording] and they either do not charge [I mean they have the same problem as mine at home]or they simply do not allow the screen to come on. Have tried different charging cables and plugs at home and at the shop and always the same, all the parts ordered were original samsung. The cable and plug I use to charge works perfectly well charging my husbands A51......so scratching my head wondering what it could be!!!! Any ideas?

Hello 👋 @mariacook1

It may have been a better option to take the phone to a Samsung Service Centre to keep any manufacturer's warranty in place.

Try running the diagnostic tool 🔧 found in the Samsung Members App too.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "

Hi, thanks for replying. I live in sunny Andalucia Spain in the countryside so there is no SSC and I doubt very much that my phone is under any guarantee, so that's not an issue for me. So I've tried the diagnostics on the phone under ''cable charging'' in 3 different cables and plugs and it tells me in all cases that cable charging is not working.

Seems like your port is just worn out. Your phone will be a bit old by now so it makes sense. A local repair shop might be able to replace the port though it won't be official

Yes they've tried 4 different ports from 3 different suppliers and the results are...

2 don't work full stop

1 doesn't allow the screen to work

1 doesn't charge

So I don't understand, is it the port or could it be something else?

What if I get a wireless charger? could that be the solution?

I'm not overly tech savvy so sorry for my stupid questions.

Your phone doesn't support wireless charging.

Also to be sure, you've taken it to a shop where they've opened it up, replaced the port 4 times and the issues still occur? Kinda sounds like the port isn't being replaced.

Believing it has, the only other option is bad cables or a bad charging brick

OK  the shop I've gone to is a trusted company and friend so I believe him. Shame about the wireless charger. As far as the cables are concerned he has tried several in the workshop and I have tried 3 at home so its not the cables. Its just strange how if I move the plug around a bit it eventually finds a position it likes and charges fine.

Yeah, it's really is strange, if the port and cables have been replaced, I can't really think of anything that would cause you to have to wiggle it
