Hi,

I have a Samsung A41 on Android 10 (October security patch level). The Google play system update is February 2020. If I try to update Google play system update then it says that I have the latest Google play system update. I know this is not true as there is a October Google play system update for the Samsung A41, which my friend has on their Samsung A41 with the Android 10 (October security patch level).

Also, does the Google play system update have to be done manually by going into Biometrics and security > Google Play system update, or it is done automatically without me having to do anything?

Thanks,

Greg

Hi,

I have just updated my Samsung A41 software with an OTA update to the latest Android 10 (November security patch level) software and the Google Play Security Update has been updated at the same time to September 2020. The versions have now been updated to:

Documents UI r_aml_300900700
ExtServices q_pr1-release_aml_291900801
Media Codecs 300900700
Media Framework Components 300900700
Module Metadata 2020-09-01
Permission Controller q_pc_aml_292900000
Time Zone Data 292500002

However, if I try to update Google play system update manually after the OTA update then it says that I have the latest Google play system update, even though there is a December 2020 update available.

So the Google play system update security situation has improved with the OTA update (going from February 2020 to September 2020) but the Google play system update function still seems to be broken.

Hi Grog,

After your OTA update try rebooting the phone again. We have found this seems to trigger a later Google Play update.

Which means Google Play updates seem to be dependant on Samsung updates, which makes a nonsense of Googles claims that they can now update Android security independent of manufacturers who are slow or abandon support of older handsets.

Hi Nightflame,

I think you are right in that the Google Play Security Updates are dependant on Samsung updates, even though they are supposed to be independent of manufacturers. Samsung probably rolls Google Play Security Updates out according to its own schedule rather than Google's.

hi, most of this type of error occurs when a new update comes.  especially on the mobile phone.  one of the tech sites that I found is when a new security update comes it will describe in detail with problem and solution.
