Galaxy A52s: Updating from OneUI 5.x to 6.1 resulted in notifications not lighting up lockscreen anymore... please help

Hello,

I have recently upgraded my Galaxy A52s phone from OneUI 5 to both 6.0 and now 6.1 (I postponed this update for a long time because everything worked so smoothly and I did not want to ruin the functionality of the phone). Turns out, it is ruined (hopefully you can convince me otherwise).

On OneUI 5, if my screen was off and someone sent me an e-mail or whatsapp message, the lockscreen would light up (in combination with vibration and/or sound, depending on my settings).

But, both with OneUI 6.0 and 6.1, my lockscreen just refuses to light up when a notification is present. I know a notification is present, because the sound and/or vibration still works when someone sends me an e-mail/whatsapp/etc., but the lockscreen just refuses to light up. I have already looked at the settings; please see the attached pictures to see which settings I have turned on/off: https://imgur.com/a/j7058Dh

It does not matter if 'Always On Display' is turned on/off, the issue still persists. I have tried to restart and power down/up the phone countless times, not once has it worked since updated to OneUI 6.x.

I do not want to rely on third party apps, my A52s had this functionality that worked PERFECTLY during OneUI 5.x and I just cannot accept relying on third party apps for something that a) worked previously and b) should be functioning because there are literally settings you can use to achieve it.

My phone is up to date with software updates. I am not using a custom ROM, it is not rooted.

If someone could please help me fix this without third party apps, that would be so so so appreciated!

Exactly the same issue with a 53 5g Notification pop-up style Details the screen stoped lighting up so . The only app it did work for was Samsung messages. So I had to resort in using brief which I did not like .when I sent a error report to Samsung they didn't understand what I meant now I definitely know this is to do with one UI 6

Hi, and welcome to the UK community

Ensure notification pop up style is set to brief
(Settings>notifications>notification pop up style).

However, a lot of users were caught out by the new 'Notification categories' setting that was toggled off by default after the new update.

Settings>Notifications >Advanced settings >Manage notification categories for each app. Toggle that ON.

Then goto
Settings>Notifications >App notifications. Scroll through the list and tap on each app. Tap 'Notification catagories' and toggle everything on.

If you want to assign separate sounds to each category, then tap 'Notification categories'. Tap each category. Tap 'Sound'. Choose a sound.

First of all, thanks for answering.

As you can see in the pictures of my original post, notification style was already set to brief.

The notification categories option does not solve my problem. After turning notification categories on, both Outlook and whatsapp had by default all categories already on 'On'. I've tested it with Outlook and again when receiving a new mail, my phone ONLY vibrates/makes a sound WITHOUT lighting up the lockscreen..

Sorry, I don't tap on unsolicited links, so haven't looked. It's better if you post screenshots.

Is it WhatsApp and Outlook you're particularly asking about, or does it happen with ALL app notifications?

It happens with ALL apps/notifications that I want to receive notifications for/used to work, but I'm using WhatsApp and Outlook as examples since everyone knows those apps.

Here are all the pictures I put in the Imgur album you won't click (which is fair):

This needs to be on (1st screenshot)
If you tap on Edge lighting style, does the demo show up? Tap on Advanced and ensure Transparency is Low, Width is Wide and Duration is Long
Try another effect such as Fireworks.

Can you also turn off Dark Mode and see if that makes any difference.

Please have a look through this official Samsung tutorial for more tips.

Hi,

I disagree with you on your first screenshot, the 'Show content' option does NOT need to be on. Because when I receive a notification and I turn on the screen manually, I see the contents of the message (for example, my brother said 'Hey!'), but when I turn the option to 'Hide content', and I receive a notification and turn on the screen manually, I only see I have a WhatsApp message, but I do not see the contents of the actual message or the sender. This is also how I have always used it on OneUI 5.x: hide content. I have tried it anyhow and it still does not work.

I have ensured Transparency is low and duration is long (width is wide was not available). I have also tried multiple notification animation styles (such as fireworks) but that also does not work. See the attached screenshot

Is there perhaps a Samsung developer that can analyze my settings/logs? I have scoured the internet for people having the same problem as me, I have watched multiple YouTube videos and tutorials, but absolutely nothing has helped..

Thanks, that is how mine is set up, so I just wanted to ensure we both had the same.

I was looking online last night regarding the A52 and edge lighting effects. I noticed this feature wasn't always available for devices pre UI 5.x. Was this something that's always worked for you straight out of the box?

Yes, you can use your Samsung members app to reach out to Samsung support. Just head to the Support section and tap on Ask questions or Error Reports. Hopefully, they can shed some light on it.

I also found this

Settings > Notifications > App Notifications (choose the ones you want) > go back then "Lock screen notifications" select "Show content" (should mirror choices in previous screen) bottom of this same page TAP "Notifications to show" select "Alert and silent notifications" go back then "Notification pop-up style > select brief > Apps to show as brief = All apps and select "Show even while screen is off" then go back one page > "Advanced settings" "Show notification icons" = All notifications > "Floating notifications = OFF everything else on this page is OFF except the very bottom setting "Manage notification categories for each app = ON
Back out of "Notifications" and go to "Lock screen and AOD > Always On Display = on - then tap right on the words themselves and "When to show" = For new notifications
