Only just noticed  after trying to turn off my A16 phone whilst at a funeral.

That stupid update forced Gemini on me. I had to prey that nobody phoned me. Holding the side button called up the AI did not allow me to shut down. Like it always has done.

Eventually found how to switch back. I  do NOT want gemini. Disabling the gemini app had no effect. If I  pressed the start butto , up popped  gemini.

You cannot even get rid of the app.

Gemini is google assistant. Android has had google assistant for many years now. Nothing has really changed except the power button opening the assistant by default.

You can turn it off in the Gemini app. Swapping it back to the old assistant

Hi! You can change it back.

Go to settings- Advanced features- Side button- Long press- and then change it to Power off menu

*gemini is now built into android by google. All phones besides apple- who have their own version. All new phones will have some sort of AI 1752772499249.jpg

You need to change it in the settings for side button to change it to power off.

Gemini is not THE google assistant. As you say, you can go back to the old assistant.  I.e. there are 2 assistants.

I should have been given a choice, not have this changes forced on me. Updates, yes. New functions, a choice.

It was not the default button before UI7. The AI assistant was around before the update.

No warning, no choice. The way to turn off my phone was changed. A major change IMHO.

It's a default, many settings in android get changed from default. You complaining over a changeable setting isn't going to change anything. Google wanted Gemini front and center in Android, so either complain to them or just simply deal with 5 seconds of making an adjustment.

It's kinda funny, I'm not aware of anywhere in the Samsung EULA it states they need to request your approval for any changes in THEIR software FOR A DEFAULT setting.
