Finally A70 getting a security patch

Today my A70 UK with csc XEU is getting January 2020 security update , fingers crossed it doesn't fudge my phone

I would  suggest to create a back up before updating your phone.

Seems to have screwed my phone, can no longer update existing apps or download new ones via the Google Play store.
Have tried reboot and clearing Play Store and Play services caches without success so far.

If this was my phone playing up @97suited I would try the following.

1. Turn the phone off and then from a set series of button presses go into the phones system files and clear the cache.

2. As a very last resort back up and remove any relevant Sd card and factory reset.

3. Let a Samsung Experience Store  / Samsung Service Centre have hands on.

Thanks BoB, have already tried #1. Will probably go for #3 at the weekend if it doesn't self-resolve before then.

Found out what the problem is, seems to have been a glitch.

When I got home last night the updates that had been pending for several hours started downloading - because I was now connected to WiFi.

To be clear, updates have always auto-downloaded over cellular since I first got the phone.

The relevant Google Play settings were:

App download preference - Over Wifi only.

Auto-update apps - Ove any network.

Seems that the update caused one of the settings to change. I've now changed them both back to any network.
