Earphones not working Galaxy A12

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone can help me. When I plug earphones into my galaxy A12, sound continues to come out of the phone speakers and not the earphones. The earphones have been tested on another device and are not the problem.  I've found that if I turn off and turn on the phone with earphones plugged in, the opposite is true; sound plays through the earphones but not through the speakers.

Any tips or tricks would be appreciated, thank you!

Can you take a look inside the port to ensure there's no built up of debris and lint @melonen 

Use a torch.

I've taken a look and nothing seems out of place. I had tried to clean out the port but was told it could cause damage and stopped.
