A70 screen will not dim/USB connection.

Hey,

I've noticed a problem with my A70 regarding trying to dim the screen when locking manually or expecting it to lock after screen timeout.

Basically, my phone won't sleep, at least not whilst charging. I spent a good while playing around with settings on my phone, such as timeout and lock screen settings. I also powered off the device but no luck.

After trying to figure out the problem further I discovered that the notification tray is being constantly updated every few seconds swapping between "Android system USB connector connected" and "Android system USB connector disconnected". So presumably this is what is keeping the phone awake as it thinks it is being constantly connected and disconnected from source USB source. I cleaned out the USB port but it was pretty clean to begin with. I'm not getting any notifications regarding any moisture detection.

The A70 charges just fine (though sometimes there is a slight delay to it recognising being plugged in) and it seems that the USB tethering interface is working well as I can use the remote debugging feature in Google Chrome (for web development purposes) just fine. As far as I can tell, there are no actual issues with the USB port - it functions as I would expect.

The A70 was last updated on the 14th August to "Security Patch level: 1 July 2019" and looking over the log of updates I see that "The charger/USB port's moisture detection algorithm has been improved" - so someone somewhere has been looking at this feature and I doubt it coincidence that my device has just developed a fault, given that I've not had it anywhere near moisture or excessive dirt.. and the port still actually works!

I've also tried Safe Mode but the issue persists. Also, if I power the device off, then plug it into the wall, power it on, the notification issue stops... until I unplug it/switch off the wall socket - then it comes back again.

Anyone else having similar problems?

Hi. So my husband's phone (the A70) had the exact same problem yesterday after a software update. He noticed that the update was draining the battery so he plugged in to his friend's Huawei charger. Then the phone's screen won't turn off even after locking the phone. He didn't know what was happening and I read 31 pages of people's comment yesterday just to find a solution. I tried alllllllllllllll of them, trust me. The only thing that worked was the draining the battery method.

I drained the battery to 0% and just let it die

Then I charged it with the original Samsung charger till 100% and let it overcharge for like half an hour

Switched it back on, and the glitch/spam stopped.

In my opinion, it was the charger. Because my husband said it was his first time using a Huawei charger as his was in the car. I read someone's comment about the other chargers don't have the same voltage and that can cause the glitch?¿

Idk maybe that is it.

So guys maybe try all the methods first, maybe the phones don't work the same way. Just like humans lol but seriously if the battery draining method doesn't work, then probably it's a hardware problem.

Hope my husband's phone won't go haywire again.

Hi that's what I been telling ppl to drain the battery to 0% and use the original charger and over charge it. That's what went wrong with mines I was using a 3.0a charger and my a70 started acting up.

I just used the drain battery method. It indeed worked for the screen turning off part.
One problem remains with the notification.
"usb connected/disconnected" is still going crazy in the notification area.
The battery is drained at a slower rate now.
Anyway thanks a lot for the tip!

I have tried all the above solutions given by all the concerned and affected people but this issue still remains unresolved. Samsung does not have an ear to listen to what so many people are talking about. I was using a Samsung Grand 2 phone and Sony Xperia C5 before, bought this A70 only because my phone fell in the water. Never had any issue with Xperia C5 but this phone is giving me nightmares, as whenever I look at it it's wide awake. It becomes so hot at times as if it will make a hole in my pocket. Everytime I feel as if I am carrying a bomb in my pocket which may explode anytime. I went to the service center and the lady there told it might take a week or more than that as they didn't have the parts. I am so pissed off and regret buying this phone. Why I didn't go for One Plus? I tried to get another phone at Amazon in exchange of this and they were giving 6,400 rupees for it. Bloody 400$ one month old phone getting only 90$ in exchange.

I've got same issue for 1 day. The methods mentioned on the forum didn’t work in my case. I clean usb port by wet paper towel  and it worked.

Drain battery to 0% and over charge battery with original charger with phone off for 1-2 hours
