A70 screen will not dim/USB connection.

Hey,

I've noticed a problem with my A70 regarding trying to dim the screen when locking manually or expecting it to lock after screen timeout.

Basically, my phone won't sleep, at least not whilst charging. I spent a good while playing around with settings on my phone, such as timeout and lock screen settings. I also powered off the device but no luck.

After trying to figure out the problem further I discovered that the notification tray is being constantly updated every few seconds swapping between "Android system USB connector connected" and "Android system USB connector disconnected". So presumably this is what is keeping the phone awake as it thinks it is being constantly connected and disconnected from source USB source. I cleaned out the USB port but it was pretty clean to begin with. I'm not getting any notifications regarding any moisture detection.

The A70 charges just fine (though sometimes there is a slight delay to it recognising being plugged in) and it seems that the USB tethering interface is working well as I can use the remote debugging feature in Google Chrome (for web development purposes) just fine. As far as I can tell, there are no actual issues with the USB port - it functions as I would expect.

The A70 was last updated on the 14th August to "Security Patch level: 1 July 2019" and looking over the log of updates I see that "The charger/USB port's moisture detection algorithm has been improved" - so someone somewhere has been looking at this feature and I doubt it coincidence that my device has just developed a fault, given that I've not had it anywhere near moisture or excessive dirt.. and the port still actually works!

I've also tried Safe Mode but the issue persists. Also, if I power the device off, then plug it into the wall, power it on, the notification issue stops... until I unplug it/switch off the wall socket - then it comes back again.

Anyone else having similar problems?

samsung has emailed saying my phone is ready to come back and has been picked up by the courier. it will be with me tomorrow afternoon

they have not mentioned any details about the repair itself. so I expect they have just flashed the software and sent it back

there is no mention of the repair not being done under warranty so I don't expect they have opened the phone or replaced any hardware

I would of done this myself however I felt that I should present my phone to Samsung as still under warranty. this also helps Samsung understand the issue as they will log the repair. if we all fix our phones ourselves Samsung may never address the issue or learn more hands on

It's about time for Samsung to communicate about this major problem....because it's worldwide !!

If flashing is "THE SOLUTION" then let's all flash our phones  to fix this problem.....

but then how.will.samsung learn of the issue if we do not send them back? we all.have the ability to do so.

others have mentioned that the problem comes back..so perhaps if this is the case for me I will jump through the hoops Samsung want me to retain warranty.

if we don't communicate the issue to Samsung and allow them to inspect and fault find how can you expect them to develop a solution?

each phones fault is inspected on it's own merit. one fault may be caused by various issues.

at least I know I haven't been charged any money

if the fault.comes back I can contact Samsung and get them to look at it again.

they will have a record of repairs already done to my phone thus helping them identify the problem

I put the January update on my phone before ordering the new charging port the issue was still there I'm not sure if a update killed the port or if using a bad aftermarket charger killed it none the less flashing the software isn't gonna fix the issue

My phone acts up when there's moisture in Port.  When it rains or snows, I get the rolling notification.

Other phones may be different, but for me that's when occurs.

I have to alcohol+ brush the port, wipe and dry..  goes away.

The sensors  in phone are very delicate....probably software  related.

my phone has been returned

no charge under warranty, they haven't put in any information or communicated to me what they have actually done to the phone

but upon launching the phone the date was 2nd of january, (last time I updated) so there is the clue.

seems like they have just flashed the software, so far I've have no issues with the rolling notification.

I will set up the phone properly later and will keep an eye on it. since I'm paranoid about contaminates getting into the usb port i've decided to cover it with a piece of electrical tape until i source a plug/cover

I do stress if your phone is under warranty then send it to samsung to get tested

if you try and fixs these faults on your own samsung will never establish a proper fix

they need to be presented the problem for them to find a solution, they will not deal on speculation on a forum, every users own experience is unique!

obviously if the repair is not warrantyable then they will contact before proceeding with the repairs!

if you chose not to go ahead with the repairs then it's up to you what you do with your phone.
