Hello,

I immidiately noticed the following issues after updating my Galaxy A53 5G # to One UI 6

Network

5G speed dropped from 12-24MBs to 300KBs max. 4G speed dropped from 4-6MBs to 200KBs max.

Turned on VoLTE after all this time and this is the result:

Nevermind 😑

Camera

Sometimes, 64MP photos are warped (16MP for comparison). Holding for photo or not was not the cause for this error.

Fingerprint

Fingerprint does not light up randomly. I have to go to lockscreen and then use the fingerprint.

Slightest smudge now interferes with recognizing the fingerprint.

Battery

Idle (Display off) is improved.

Usage is worsened. That does not matter as I was already charging it at least twice a day anyway.

(Clarification: A53 5G battery is already bad that I have to charge the brand new device few times a day, after using facebook (lite app), whatsapp, instagram (non-lite app), light browsing (Firefox and Chrome), some calls (less than 30 minutes a day)

Further Bugs Noticed

  • Adaptive brightness is either too dim or too bright when light changes drastically.
  • Gestures are not always responsive. It becomes just scrolling/swiping randomly.
  • Battery heats up using Facebook Lite, goes upto 37°C easy. Previously it was just the processor, battery barely hit 35°C. It's just 2 degrees because I stop using the device at th 37°C warning.
  • Charging is also slow. Takes about 30 mins or so more to charge 10-90%

Things I tried

Resetting Network Settings (Network, Bluetooth, and WiFi) - No impact

Resetting All Settings - No impact

Factory Resetting - No Impact

Clearing Cache Partition - UI lags are rare now

Do other users have these bugs? What are the fixes/ workarounds you found?

Why are there a concerning amount of bugs coming from the No.1 Android phone manufacturer, and why are they not yet fixed?

Thanks!

It looks fine after this update. But I'll have to do more tests as I was inside a star hotel.

Network Update 2: It seems back to normal. Here are the speeds in "real world" for me:

An area where network coverage is average-high (auto youtube quality is 480p):

In an area where network coverage is medium-low (auto youtube quality is 240p)

Camera:

Did not check 64MP. Might check later. (Honestly forgot as I stopped using it)

16MP and Ultra wide which I use are doing just fine.

Fingerprint:

Same issues are still there.

Battery Life:

It is much much worse now.

Further Bugs Noticed

  • Adaptive brightness is still buggy.
  • Gestures seems to be back to normal.
  • Battery heating up issue is there if the network is unstable (switching between 5G, 4G+, 4G) or coverage is low.
  • Charging is good, but not back to what it was.

Overall, this has been an interesting security patch.

I have one more question though. How are you going to fix the phones that were bricked by your buggy update?

01 June 2024 security patch:

After noticing a speed drop, I decided to test again And compare with my J7 Max and P8 Lite. I used the same SIMs, and same APN settings.

Here are the results:

I will be updating the cellular signal issues here.

BTW, WHY IS THE Galaxy A53 5G LOSING TO 7-YEAR OLD PHONES!?

All this makes me question Galaxy Buds3 ProGalaxy Buds3Galaxy S24 Ultra

Unfortunately, selling bugs is the norm now.

In my opinion, moving away from preventable bugs like this is smart as the end-user. Specially since they treated the Galaxy S23 lineup the same way.

You are welcome.

I used the Samsung Members app first. It has a dedicated option to send reports. It may not be present in the app drawer. In that case, searching reveals it.

I am 3,000 miles away from home on my vacation.  Samsung has been pushing the stupid One UI 6.1 update on me for weeks, to the point that every time I've turned on the phone, I was told to update it.  So yesterday when I had some time, I closed all my apps, made sure I was fully charged, and ran the update.  The STUPIDEST move I could EVER have made, I guess, because the update bricked my phone entirely.  None of the Samsung apps work anymore.  After each restart, com.android.phone is the first thing to crash. Samsung Members crashes if I try to launch it.

This is problematic for a number of reasons.  My phone is a medical device.  It's also a security authorization device for my work laptop, and the device used by a dozen or more of my accounts which require multifactor authentication.  AND it houses my plane tickets and event tickets.

I currently have no cell service and no texting capabilities. I can access web when wifi is available, but Google of course keeps wanting to make sure I am who I say I am and since I am unable to explain to Google exactly what's going on, I feel like my minutes with Wifi are numbered.  The SIM card is "not available." The IMEI number is "not available."  And the support people at Samsung keep telling me to look in  settings for those numbers, as if I was a complete moron.

By the way, if anyone out there from Samsung ever reads this...it would be so much better if your customer support people were not restricted to the one single script for troubleshooting. A bit more listening and critical thinking would be so much more appreciated.

I don't know what this update was supposed to do, but it has made the balance of my vacation rather unpleasant.

Oh god why.. Let the notification annoy you, please..

Samsung, Poco, Redmi, OnePlus, Nokia, god knows who else.. They all do this. Planned Obsolescence  is The best way to ensure unit sales. Specially when a new device is launched. These manufacturers only care about impressing so called tech influencers to boost launch sales, not releasing a sustainable product.

Well from now on I will never update anything.  I took my phone in to be "serviced," and they are saying it's likely the motherboard, and it's not under warranty, so it would be best to buy a new device if I want to have the use of a phone for the remainder of my vacation.  All because of an update Samsung should never have released.  I am livid.

All of a sudden I'm feeling like a class action suit might be in my future.

Takers?

Hey! My phone has had the same issue where the screen is completeley unresponsive to touch  but all the side buttons and everything works. I just sent it in for repairs and it turns out to be a fried CPU, which is surprising after around only 2 years of usage. However after looking through multiple customer support threads as well as on reddit, the cause is probably due to how prone A53 is to overheating (using too many applications at once, not using its original charger). So perhaps that might be the issue with your phone if not it could possibly be a display issue.

After more than a month going back and forth with Samsung and Verizon and buying a cheap additional phone, I finally received a replacement device (A54 5G) only after they received my non-working A53 5G.  To your question, I purchased the phone through Straight Talk online.
