Have had this happen recently to my workplace. I work in IT support and can't figure out this issue.
Have tried all troubleshooting steps provided in other forums including factory reset, trying different cables/PCs, developer mode etc.
We've had reports of users who were always able to transfer media from phone to PC then suddenly it stops working. Phone models range from A52/A53/A54
It doesn't seem to be model specific as some are still able to transfer files

This issue also started appearing this week at our company. Only our fully managed corporate Samsung phones are observing this issue. The initial pull down from the top of the phone screen seems to indicate that transferring files is active, but when we tap on "other USB options" the "Transferring files" option is not present.
Initial pull down
fully managed Samsung phone
phone not on Knox
Update: We were able to work around this issue by allowing Developer options on the Microsoft Intune profile associated with our fully managed phones, and setting the Default USB configuration to "Transferring files".

I have also encountered this error on Galaxy A71 and Galaxy Tab... when connecting to laptop nothing happens except chrging the device even tho default option is set to file transfer.
If I switch to transfer images, the pc will open a new window and Image transfer works, but switching back to file transfer and any window just closes and the phone/tablet is no longer seen by the computer.
Have followed all steps mentioned here and on various forums including microsoft yet nothing is working.
If I plug my wifes moto phone everything works...
So is this a Samsung Android issue ????
July 23rd 2024 and this is still a problem for a lot of people!

I've had the same issue with my S23 Ultra for a while now. Did you manage to fix the issue?

2024 and still issue without any resolution. Samsung Galaxy A52. Tried everything imaginable and cannot enable file transfer. This is critical for an android app developer. Will replace my Samsung phone with a competitor i'm thinking Motorola.

I had this problem with a S23 FE I got only a couple of weeks ago. The phone would allow only charging, and the PC simply would not see the phone. I was about to despair, when I used the cable I recieved with the phone, which is a USB C to USB C cable; ie not USB A to USB C! Thankfully my PC has a USB C port.
With this cable, the PC sees the phone just like it would any USB harddrive, and I can move or copy files between the PC and phone as desired. That's awesome!
I previously had an Oppo phone were this wasn't possible, and it was one of the features I missed most. As others have said, why should we be forced to go via the cloud when moving files between devices can be so easy? Thankfully Samsung got it right. It just needs to be better documented!
A little bonus: If in Developer Options you set Default USB Configuration to Transfering Images, the icon representing your Samsung in Windows Explores is a little camera, and you have access to image files only. If you set it to Transferring Files, it shows up like any hardrive, and you have access to all files on the phone.
I hope this will help a few people. Bummer if your PC has no USB C port.

Hello, noticed this same issue in my A52s. I even tried a USB C to USB C cable, but nothing happens on my PC.
Does anyone have another solution?

OK, this is kind of a silly question, but it's something that could totally happen to me - have you unlocked the phone before connecting it to the PC with a USB C to USB C cable?

Hello
At least on my device you left out a step: - Go to Settings-About Phone, Software Information and tap Build Number 7 times.
It made no difference to my device. I have transferring files enabled but when I plug in the tablet it starts a scanning application on my Win 10 PC. If I chose Images it does correctly bring up Folders but will only show Picture folders and will not let me creat any new folders. Why cant we just transfer files without all this hassel. Very frustrating and time wasting.
