Hello I have been trouble shooting a system issue that has started happening since I bought and installed Samsung SSD 990 PRO with Heatsink 2TB into my PC

What happens -> Windows process/cmd.exe crash, grey screen, Task manager unavailable due to "not being loaded into memory". (tasks like browser YT will carry on with stutters and sound distortion every few seconds, closing or moving a window looses it for good, no task bar etc)

Only way to get beyond that point it Power/Reset

On restart Samsung SSD 990 PRO with Heatsink 2TB does not appear to the bios requiring a second power cycle.

IF the crashed state is left for longer than a minute the Samsung SSD 990 PRO with Heatsink 2TB may require a full power down AND bios reset before it becomes visible again.

Tasks that lead to this happening - running Microsoft Visual Studio, Steam Games, Microsoft Visual Code, NodeJS, UEditor -- in general it happens when there is a fair bit of IO going on

Google has shown by the power of search (990 PRO vanishes/disappears) my exact issue happens to many people on varying hardware, the common item is the 990 PRO.

Are there any work arounds for this yet? It appears I need another new C drive if there is not.

I appreciate trouble shooting tips, I have of-course arrived here after narrowing it down to Drive/Hardware/Firmware and done all sensible steps up to this point.

I have had no issues with my previous C drive, only switched to be bigger and faster but my productivity with this issue is bottomed out now

Many thanks!

Since posting I have made 3 changes, one of which has stopped my drive from vanishing…

1) Turned off activity LED

2) Set all NVMe Bios config from auto to gen4 (ASUS tuf g pro z790)

3) Disabled VMD

hope that helps others!

call it a compatibility issue as my old drive was fine on default settings

Have you installed the Samsung magician software?
I see this fairly often, but it's usually because people forget to set it up through that software that installs all of the needed drivers

Yes, I've set it up, checked firmware, run diag, tried different settings etc

Also, FYI, I am using Windows 11, Samsung does not provide any drivers for my OS or the Samsung SSD 990 PRO with Heatsink 2TB
Firmware is 'latest' 4B2QJXD7
