YouTube video at bottom of this post shows issue with Samsung Odyssey G7 monitor. It has not been moved or physically damaged. It's no longer on warranty (>3 years old).

When I turn it on and connect computer to it, it just flashes then goes black as seen and none of the menus work any longer. The issue happens with multiple different laptops and cables so the laptop/cable is not the problem. I also have a second monitor which does not have this issue.

The issue is not consistent. Sometimes the monitor works (eg it is working now). When the issue appears, it is very difficult to get the monitor working again when I critically need it for work! Random things like turning off and on or waiting and unplugging and plugging DP cable might work, but not always.

Has anyone seen this before? Can it be repaired / worth repairing? Any advice welcome.

I went on vacation for a number of days and again, as always happens when I do not use the monitor for a few days, the issue as seen in the YouTube at top of this thread stated happening. The PowerDrain process I recommended in this thread did not work despite trying this and turning monitor on and off over 30 times. The hair dryer method mentioned above worked however immediately. I passed a hair dryer at highest heat and while close to the screen slowly over the screen in swooping motion. It took about a minute to cover the entire screen. Then I turned on the monitor and it worked for like a minute then went off again. I again passed the hair dryer over a second time, then all fixed.

Hi there WesWes,

I'm happy to say your fix salvaged a 'faulty' G7 I got off of Facebook for dirt cheap and it works soundly. However I still have that issue if I left it off overnight, I'm starting to think the panel doesn't generate enough heat or something is not making sense to me here.

I'd be glad if anyone else knows why is this so, it would be an improvement to use this monitor normally.

Thank you!

I tried literally everything and nothing helped, but the trick with the hairdryer worked, thank you so much you saved me money! ❤️

It's not a last-ditch effort. It is THE SOLUTION. They won't admit it, of course. My wife would tell me from time to time that the screen was not turning on, but when I came back, it would always work (she would leave the PC on). Today it finally happened to me, and only 30 seconds with a fan on hot made it turn on. So, you need to heat it up... And now I actually remember one time I left the window open during winter, and it was so cold in the room that it wouldn't turn on, but back then I just warmed it up without thinking. But now it's doing it in moderate warm weather(It was +10°C tonight.), which is weird. It's 3 years old at this point.

Just signed up to say this worked—thank you!

I used a heat gun, keeping about 15 cm distance, and moved it around the front and back of the monitor for about 3 minutes. After turning the monitor on, the flicker was noticeably reduced. I then used the heat gun on the back while the monitor was powered on, and within seconds, the flicker completely disappeared. The monitor is now working perfectly.

In my case, I believe the issue was caused by not using the monitor for a few months while it was stored in a fairly cold part of the house.

Sad I found the solution only now, when my monitor was "repaired" by replacing the display at a local Samsung repair service and have to go pick it up today. Had the same exact issue and lost 250 EUR on this non-sense repair. What a joke

I think you would have had to do that eventually. My issue with this continues to get worse. Do you have the exact name of the part / part number that had to be changed and the name of the service center you used please? That would be great info to have. And it sounds like the issue you had is the same as described in this thread?

Yes, exactly the same issue as shown in the video, I even have my own videos showing exactly the same behaviour.

We mounted the monitor on an arm and I turned it on only in a few days and this occured. Could you please elaborate on what you mean exactly by getting worse?

Unfortunately i live in Moldova. It is a local official samsung service center. I imagine the technician couldn't diagnose anything and invented a story about some melted traces just in order to do a monkey display replacement job and charge me for that. I am going right now to ask to see the melted traces and the result of their work. I feel so scammed now finding out that the solution was that easy.

P.s.: Actually the technician explained me in a good manner that a half of the monitor was not displaying properly the image. I din't get him right on the phone. From his explanation, this might be a part of planned obsolence as he actually couldn't find any visual physical damage and he watches lots of such cases coming from different brands. Guess he wouldn't change the whole display if there was a cheaper solution since he gets nothing from trading parts.
As for the part number, this must be the box of my replacement display part, also I'll attach the pics of my old display as he gave it to me to keep it.

Can you confirm SH1F7ER that your monitor is 100% working perfectly now and not giving you any issues even after a few days of no use because you have replaced part CY-PT270PLLV1H / CY-PT270PLLV4H?
