When setting the Xbox series x to 4k 120hz I'm experiencing intermittent picture loss rendering the system unusable.

Samsung Q80T 55"

Using HDMI port 4 with a 2.1 cable

Software Version 1460

Switching settings on the Xbox with VRR or HDR had no effect.

Does anyone have a fix?

How come there's a lot of people claiming to be running to 4k/120hz already on this model? Also I'm sure I have run it at that spec myself, but can't replicate....very frustrating

It is hard to explain but I will try.
Latest consoles run at 4k 120hz through HDMI 2.1. Only problem is tv from last year with HDMI 2.1 input are struggling to maintain 4K 120Hz at 10 Bit color. That is what XBox Series X and PS5 output. Confusing.
Check out Youtube videos. Hopefully that will help.
Those that are saying they have 4k 120hz are doing so at 8 bit color.

So I change the settings to 8 bit and it should work?

don't forget 4k is not 1440p like people saying they have. 4k is 2160p...That's where the problem arises. TV can only output at 1440p even though consoles are shifting 2160p at 10 bit. vrr

So adjust to 1440p 120hz or 4k 60hz and wait for update.
