Pairing HW-J450 Soundbar

Hi. I had this soundbar  working perfectly via SoundConnect with our precious tv. I don't remember the exact model but it was a 43" curved screen one we bought in 2014. Our toddler smashed the screen on it yesterday so we bought a UHD 7 Series model. I'm trying to pair the soundbar via BT and I'm having a very specific problem. When I choose the BT source on the soundbar it says "BT READY". The manual then says to hold the source button for 5 seconds until it changes to "BT PAIRING". But when I hold the button it mutes (MUTE appears on the screen) the soundbar instead of changing to "BT PAIRING". I updated the firmware to the most recent one available (2019) and it's still the same. Has anyone any idea about how I can get around this?

@JamesMcNulty: I had a look in the Soundbar user manual, and it gave the following steps for pairing via SoundConnect. Can you give this a try and let me know if this works for you

1. Turn on the TV and Soundbar.
2. Press the button on the soundbars right side, or the SOURCE button on the remote control, to select the TV mode (so TV is displayed on the soundbar)
3. On the TV, a message asking whether to enable the TV SoundConnect function appears.
4. Select <Yes> using the TV's remote control to finish connecting the TV and Soundbar.

Hey Andrew. Thanks for the response. The TV SoundConnect function has been discontinued unfortunately. I never had a problem with it and had anticipated being able to use it again. But BT or cabling are now the only options.
