Watch 6 will not complete connection S22+

Tried to connect a new Watch 6 to S22+ one year after purchase.
Connection starts well but stops at around 75% of "Getting ready to connect" the wearable app says on the phone. Watch says "Connection failed" and then it offers to start over again.
Tried reinstalling the Wearable and the Watch 6 manager apps a few times as well as clearing the memory of the apps.
Any clues around?

The only solution I've personally had success with, and have seen posted on this forum, is that it eventually works by repeatedly attempting it.

otherwise have you tried  you tried a Reset of the Galaxy watch which can sort the problem out though these issues can occur. https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10003368/
