Ring tracking exercise separately during Watch Ultra Excercise

Hi,
I'm just wondering if this is by design, or if I should change some setting.
When I start an exercise on my Watch Ultra (e.g. walking or Treadmill) everything is tracked fine, no issue, but sometimes I get a notification that my Ring has automatically tracked an exercise during the same time, and it will usually be shorter (as it takes time to realise I'm exercising, etc.), but should it not already realise that I'm exercising and not track it separately?
I realise that I can turn off the automatic tracking on the ring, but what if I'm not wearing the watch (which would be rare), then it won't track the exercise.

Perhaps that is the solution?
Looking for help and opinions.

The watch is normally the dominant reader, and the ring is meant to kick in when the watch is not being used, hence the ring battery lasting the 7 days (dependant on ring size)
But I did also read that there is some magic between them, where the ring readings are mostly used because it's constant, which is why that is most probably happening
When exercising make sure your watch is a snug fit and not loose where it can possibly miss readings, letting you ring kick in. There are a few YouTube videos about this, plus you can read about it on Techdar or GSM Arena
But the only thing is to make sure your watch is a snug fit when exercising

Thank you TechnoSteve.

I'll check out the videos and Techdar and GSM Arena.

It usually is snug at all times, particularly when exercising, but I'll be sure to tighten it in future.

What I'm also wondering and should have said it in the original post is whether or not the steps are then being double counted. I'd like them to be as accurate as possible. I've noticed that the Watch Ultra isn't as accurate on the treadmill as the Watch5 Pro was.
