I went on a walk with my wife like we do everyday. I take my ear buds and we listen to music while we walk. Today it randomly went into airplane mode when we were at the furthest point from my phone (which was at home) in our walk and would not turn off. I could access everything in the watch but airplane mode was grayed out. Not selectable. I know it had plenty of battery and I'm pretty sure it was a security thing. Soon as I got close to my house again it came back out of airplane mode again on its own. Re opened my exercise mode (walking) and updated my steps automatically.
This seems like it was a security problem. Only thing I can come up with was did it go into airplane mode as a security feature because it lost some type of communication back to my phone. I did restart it on the walk and it turned on just fine but then after about a minute it went back to airplane mode.
Anyone know what this is? Maybe I enabled some feature? Like the alert when disconnected from phone? I do have dev options enabled but nothing set up. It does have a phone number and data plan and it's set to auto to switch from wifi to mobile data.
Thanks for the help I'm kind of confused.

I haven't had it do it again, and I can't replicate it again. So I'm going to list it under software glitch or just over heating like you suggested
