My partner wears a Samsung Galaxy Watch7 and carries a Samsung Galaxy phone whilst hiking.  Can the GPS in the watch be used to notify me on an iPhone where he is? I.e. can we use it as a GPS tracker when he is hiking or will it still rely on mobile signals?

Thanks in hope!

Sorta yeah. Unsure if this works on an iPhone but try anyway.

Download smart things, way faster if you login with his account. You can make your own but you'll need to setup a family with you two and he sets his watch to be shared.

Now using the find feature within smart things, as long as the watch or phone commented to the watch has an Internet connection, you can locate it.

I believe you can do the same using the google find system and google find app, though that doesn't have a family sharing thing to my knowledge, would need his account.

His watch will always have gps, but it needs mobile data to send the location to you. That being the watch itself or a phone nearby
