Lights went out because of thunderstorm and once tv came on none of the apps connected. TV message said I needed a certificate for each app. Did a factory reset and now I’m getting a message that’s says the server is under maintenance please try again later 888-1. I have connected to my hotspot and same issue. I have unplugged and replugged same issue. How can I resolve this?

UPDATE FROM SAMSUNG 8:05pm est: “We are currently experiencing system updates and are working to resolve them as soon as possible. We advise you to patiently wait and we will take care of everything for you.”

Hi all,

Thanks for letting us know about this.

Just confirming that the server issue itself has now been resolved. But if you’re still experiencing effects relating to what happened - and power cycling (turning it off and on again), or a cold boot (10 second press of the power key on the remote), disconnecting and re-connecting the AC power to re-boot, or a Smart Hub reset (which will restore all relevant settings back to the default) don't resolve those issues - then it’s best to contact your local Samsung TV Tech Support team for further advice and help: https://www.samsung.com/uk/function/ipredirection/ipredirectionLocalList/

(Marking this post as a 'solution' so that it gets more visibility for anyone affected. Edit: Also merged a few threads to help with that.)

Same thing is happening on one of my samsung tvs. The other two are working fine, but this one has the same message. And it happened during a thunderstorm too here in NC.

I put your response into ChatGPT and this is the answer it gave:

That “888-1” server maintenance message — especially after a thunderstorm and factory reset — usually points to one of the following issues:

---

🔍 Likely Causes

1. Corrupted firmware or software from the power surge.

2. TV can’t connect to its update/auth servers, either due to:

DNS/network issues

Damaged internal clock or security certificate data

3. TV brand’s servers actually being down — rare, but not impossible.

---

🧰 What You Can Try (In Order)

1. Double-Check Internet Connection

Even though you tried a hotspot, verify the following:

Hotspot must have mobile data turned on (and a good signal).

Try another device (like your phone or tablet) on the same hotspot — if that works but the TV doesn’t, it’s the TV.

🔄 2. Set the Date and Time Manually

Some smart TVs (especially older ones or Hisense/TCL/Roku models) won’t connect to servers unless the date/time is correct — and a factory reset may wipe that.

Go to Settings > System > Date & Time

Turn off auto-update, then manually set the current date/time.

Restart the TV.

🌐 3. Change the DNS Settings

If the certificate or server check is failing, your DNS might be blocking it.

Go to Settings > Network > Advanced > DNS Settings

Set DNS manually to:

8.8.8.8 (Google)

or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)

Save and reboot the TV.

⚠️ 4. Check Your TV’s Model and Brand

Please tell me what TV brand and model number you have. Certain brands (e.g., older Vizio or Hisense models) are known for this bug — especially if a power outage interrupts a firmware update.

---

🔧 If That Fails: Try Recovery/USB Firmware Update

If your TV still won’t move past that “server under maintenance” message:

You may need to manually install firmware via USB.

That depends on your exact TV brand and model — I can walk you through it if you provide that.

---

Let me know what TV you have, and I’ll give you the exact steps or firmware download link if needed. You're not alone in this — this is a common post-power-outage glitch!

Having the same issue. All apps except for Netflix are having some kind of network error. Happening after a power outage earlier this afternoon due to a storm. Using ATT fiber which is working on multiple other devices.

Changed DNS and rebooted. Still having the same issue.

Anyone want a free piece of junk TV?

my 3 year old 75” Samsung decided to stop connecting to anything and throwing errors.  It was on the latest firmware but now will not let me do anything unless I accept the terms and conditions, and I get “server under maintenance (0-1) error repeatedly. The Smart Things app will not progress past “prepare your tv”

This thing sucks.

Same thing here. Everything but Netflix is getting the error. I've rebooted TV and router and reset the internet connection. Mine is also working on other devices. I can also cast from my computer to Chromecast but not to the Samsung app for casting.
