Samsung TV QE43Q60A: Transparent Horizonal Bars Across Screen that Appear to Dynamically Change Size

These bars persist across all apps, a Chromecast and the standard TV function. The TV has been power cycled, all devices unplugged and gone through a factory reset. The bars (as can be seen in the video) appear to change thickness depending on the brightness of the screen. I have also tried disabling settings such as contrast enhancer, all the picture clarity settings (judder reduction etc.) and adaptive brightness. The fault appears at both low and high brightness and on all of the R, G and B channels when isolated.

Any help would be appreciated :smiling-face:

I've had something similar, except the bars only changed size/location when changing picture mode from standard to dynamic, or using auto picture clarity. All of which Samsung support said was a normal characteristic of these TV's... Is it clearly visible on any of the test images in the diagnostic menus? If so, it may be a fault support will help you with.

It happens irrespective of auto picture clarity being switched on and on every single picture mode (although the bars are even wider in dynamic, whereas the video was shot on standard picture mode).  Strangely, the bars completely disappear on all the test images & test video in the diagnostic menu and everything looks great. I feel like it may be a software glitch in the newest firmware update - something to do with the smart menu?

So this issue only appeared after you updated the firmware? In that case it's most likely a software issue, and can be reported directly to Samsung through the support channels. In my experience, if the issue isn't visible in the test images/video, it will likely be deemed "within spec" and not a fault, but not always...

You may have tried troubleshooting but just checking if the Horizontal lines are occurring on all sources? Can you disconnect external devices and reconnect to see if that makes a difference, could try a Factory Reset.

However definitely if there is an error n the picture Test it does suggest a fault in the Tv and would need a repair. Go to Support-Device Care-Self Diagnosis-Picture Test.

Whilst I know some like Dynamic Mode it does not provide the best accuracy and for longevity I think best avoided.

I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

All external devices have been unplugged. The TV has been factory reset. It does not show on the diagnostics samples for video or picture. On further investigation, it is definitely a software bug in the menu UI that is overlaying all sources. When in the menu and clicking between options those same bars follow the currently selected (highlighted) option. Samsung do not appear to give any way to downgrade your firmware version either.

Replying to note that I also have this problem with a 43" Q60C -- exactly the same symptoms. Let's hope Samsung gives us a fix if it is indeed a software problem. It's very noticeable and distracting/annoying when watching pretty much anything.
