Samsung QN95a / games consoles blacking out intermittently...

Hello. I’ve just bought a 55” QN95a - it’s connected to both a PS5 and an Xbox Series X.

I've been having an issue, where when playing a game on either console, the screen/sound blacks out for about two seconds and then just goes back to normal. The game carries on in the background as it’s momentarily blacked out.

I’ve scoured the internet and it seems it’s a very common issue, particularly with Samsung Tv’s.

ive been offered a replacement tv or just one connect box, and I’ve opted to try a new one connect (easier that packing up a whole tv etc) that should come in a couple of weeks. But I’m not convinced that it’s a technical fault, but rather something software / setting related.

Ive obviously spoken to Samsung, but as always, it’s just the usual, generic troubleshooting. I’ve tried factory settings, different hdmi ports, changing from 8bit to 10bit etc. But it persists.

Any other ideas? The tv works flawlessly otherwise, it would be wonderful to get to the bottom of this one issue

Thanks

Same experience for me, but I got lucky and got an engineer out, replaced the circuit board with the HDMI ports and no more trouble

Same issue here on my samsung 65inch QN65Q7DAAFXZA model. For the past week since I've purchased this tv my xbox series S has been having exact same issues as described. I am unable to use hdmi port 4 without extreme intermittent screen blackouts. My temporary fix is to use hdmi1 port (which somehow has been working all day with no issues. This is the first thing i have tried that's worked at all). The only issue is that hdmi ports 1-3 only support hdmi 2.0 and hdmi port 4 is the only one supporting 2.1

I say temporary fix because if my only hdmi 2.1 port is unavailable, then i will be returning this tv as i plan on getting an xbox series X soon and want to play games on 4k 120hz.

I'm having the same issue, but I was an early adopter and have only started to use 4k@120hz  with HDR and VRR. Now it seems that i'm out of my warranty period and I feel like i've been shafted some what. I've tried 4 different cables which are rated as HDMI 2.1 compliant and still get the issue. Can someone from Samsung make some recommendations on what to do here? I feel like people in the thread should be shown some sympathy especially after shelling out some serious cash.

Hello, is this still working fine for you? I recently purchased one 65" and I am getting the black screen as well. I had phone calls and visits from Samsung but they do not do anything, they say it is a problem from Nvidia and AMD and are doing nothing about it.

Hi, I've had quite a few issues with black screen now, mainly with the Xbox Series X, but happens with the PS5 also just not as often.

I wouldn't waste time with Samsung support. I'd you have warranty or extended cover go that route instead.

I've actually posted this in reply to another thread but I'm going to post it here as well, since this is the same issue.

So three years later, and my Q95T still has this issue. The only way to actually make sure it doesn't happen is to set the Xbox to 4K/60. Then you can have Game Mode on Auto on the TV and VRR and ALLM will still work. But, switching back to 4K/120 with or without Game Mode on and we go back to the same issue where you end up with the No Signal screen, or signal drops intermittently.

This appears to be a hardware issue rather than a software issue, which wouldn't actually be that much of a surprise given the 2020 QLEDs were some of the first sets with 4K / 120 chipset, and how many issues there were with other 4K / 120 devices on first launch (I also got a Denon X3700 on launch and the HDM1 2.1 was broken - but at least Denon, and other AVR manufacturers, acknowledged the issue and provided solutions, in the case of Denon they issued a standalone passthrough box which fixed the issue, and replaced the chips in later production runs).

So basically what I've got is a TV I paid £5000 for on launch date (I've got the 85") which has never actually worked properly for 4K/120 gaming and a problem which Samsung have refused to acknowledge or sort.

Edit: it could potentially also be a software issue with the HDMI hardware. The reason I don't think so is that all the issues with other HDMI 2.1 from 2020/21 were hardware related. Maybe Samsung replacing the HDMI board in the One Connect box might solve the issue, but I'd have to get them to agree there actually is an issue first...

So, just spent ages on live chat with a rep. Initially they wanted me to go through the usual have you turned it off and then back on again nonsense.

However, eventually, they logged in remotely and pushed an update on the HDMI firmware and now it seems to be mostly working. Switching between games (for example CoD MW2 and Forza Horizon 5) still has some lag and occassionally drops the signal but picks it back up almost right away. Switching between a game and Home does the same thing, but seems to pick up the signal again after a few seconds, although it took a bit longer, where before it would just stay dropped. All gaming at 4K/120 with ALLM and VRR enabled, HDR calibrated on Xbox. Switching between sources on the AVR seemed to work fine as well now, whereas before if it dropped the signal I could sometimes get it back by switching to an always on source, like my server, and back again, but sometimes it just wouldn't pick up any sources at all and I had to reboot everything.

Of course, they reset all my settings on the TV and so I have to go fix them again, and for some reason now the OneConnect box won't automatically recognize my Denon X3800 AVR, instead trying to name the Source as whatever input it is switched to when I connect the AVR to HDMI 4. But I can live with that as I just manually rename it.

Let's see how long this fix holds for....

Thanks for your detailed explanation. I have managed to get rid of the problem, although it a bad way.

I have disconnected G-Sync, this is what causes me the black screens ( I do use a computer)

Windows 11 says the television is not compatible... although Samsung sells the television as G-sync compatible...

The technicians do come to visit, and they have no idea of anything... this is the worst part of it all....

I do have a second problem, it is with bixby, bixby does not do anything if I do speak to the television, only if I use the remote for it. Alexa do works, but alexa do not have the proper commands on it to work as I want it to.

Take care, good luck!
