Does Samsung series 7 smart tv with airplay support airplay through QuickTime on Mac?

it works fine if I directly mirror then screen, but if I try the airplay function through QuickTime then it only shows the connect screen on tv and the movie won’t start in QuickTime on the Mac.

i have succedeed with typing the connection code and normal mirroring works fine

The fact AppleTV stopped the stream due to file format made me think it may be a proprity restriction, I tried a movie I took on my iPhone and that didnt work so its not that either, I tried Quicktime with .mov and AppleTV app, neither worked

Exactly the same problem, glad I've narrowed just to QuickTime as the screen mirroring or separate screen AirPlay option works just fine but I imagine it's bandwidth is even higher considering it's sending all the pixels from the desktop which are unnecessary. Let's put this as a QT problem.

What I ended up doing was downloading

Elmedia:universal video player

this had airplay built in so I just bypassed QuickTime. I didn’t post as it’s a workaround that costs and I’m sure there must be a better solution. Good luck.

I suggest trying Elmedia:universal video player for free and then investing $14.99 if it works, it plays many more files than QT, it has many more codecs and on some movies it can apply subtitles. And I’m pretty sure I can use my apple remote just like QT, I can check this if you need me to, just let me know.  Worth the money in my opinion especially after spending $3k on a TV, it was minor in comparison.

Can you stream to Samsung TV using Elmedia? I just purchased the Elmedia and it detects my Samsung TV as Airplay device but doesn't stream anything to it - the spinner keeps spinning only

Same problem here. Trying to stream QuickTime Player from MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid-2014) to Samsung Q60. I can mirror the screen using AirPlay, but doesn't work from QT.  One thing I noticed: The AirPlay selector in QT shows my TV as "Samsung Q60 Series" while the TV is asking me to choose "Samsung Q60 Series (43)." I get the two screens shown below but when I hit play nothing happens.

I have the exact same issue and have been searching high and low for a solution.  I initially thought it was the ISP/router with an issue. I can stream from safari, and mirror but can't share via Quicktime. Alas I'm sure I used to before I moved, and changed interest providers. Not sure if that is something to explore.

It's driving me mad, and seems like a bug.
