Hello everyone, I cannot find the setting to disable the on screen volume display on my Q80T. Is there a hidden setting somewhere? If not, can we get the option added by Samsung?

Thank you!

Well I tweeted, got a reply from a Samsung rep telling me it is a feature because we need to know those things...

Anyways she also directed me to the us message boards to provide feedback.  Given that Samsung isn't reading this thread, I don't expect them to read one on there.  That said, I don't think anyone has tried, so I started the topic there as well.

Please add some comments. If nothing else maybe it'll feel good complaining about it a bit more...

Potential solution: Turn off HDMI control (cec) on the receiver. Change Samsung TV sound out option to optical. Receiver can still be connected to HDMI 3 eARC or any hdmi input. Will also need to connect receiver to connect box via optical. This results in no OSD for volume and TV sound through receiver. The downside is no CEC means you need to use two remotes to power and change volume.

My set up: All sources plugged into marantz receiver, single hdmi out to Samsung one connect box hdmi input 3. Optical cable from receiver to connect box. Android TV dongle plugged into receiver is main source used day to day. Using Android TV remote (the small white one). Also tested using marantz remote. No OSD. Power button on remote mapped to Samsung TV which means still need to use receiver remote for power on/off

Add me to the chorus, having just taken delivery of a QN90A. It shouldn't surprise me really as I own a Galaxy Active 2 watch and the UX design of the phone app is shocking.

Overall I'm already disappointed as I've found other issues relating to my Denon AV receiver, such as the TV audio setting reverting back to TV speakers, and the TV not able to turn on the AVR (but bizarrely it will turn it off).

Never had any of these problems with my LG. As someone else aptly summed up on here, I can imagine myself suffering buyer's remorse every time I use this TV, so need to decide whether it's going back.

Send it back while you still can. Considering how easy of a fix it would be to add a setting to allow for discreet volume changes, and the uproar that they are ignoring on their own site, they obviously do not care about their customer satisfaction.
I also have the issue where my Samsung sound bar must be connected to my Samsung television each and every time I turn it on... so frustrating that one can't even expect any sort of benefit from staying in the Samsung ecosystem.
Don't even get me started on their SmartThings phone app... do you think they can explain why the location services MUST be set to share always? I don't plan on using any location based automations. Could it really have to do with the laws of different countries??? I can't imagine it would...
Epically bad UX on all fronts. Vote with your dollars, send it back.

Samsung never listens to customers, I have a phone too.

I have a 58b860 plazma display tv and there is a volume indicator bar in the upper right that I cannot turn off.

It was there before and I figured out how to get rid of it then but it cameVolume display.jpg

back and I do not remember how I got rid of it the last time.

It is NOT the round volume display in the left corner.

First I want to say how much I appreciate the community here. This problem has been bothering me for what feels like years, and I’m so happy I’m not alone— this problem just about ruined the entire Q80T television for me.

I say “just about ruined” because I found a workaround, thanks to the folks here. YMMV:

My setup is Device -> HDMI -> Samsung 910B sound bar -> HDMI eARC -> Samsung 80T television.

Like others, my fix is disabling HDMI-CEC. On the TV settings, General/ExternalDeviceManager/Anynet+, Disable. Now I can change the volume on my sound bar without this horrific pop up. The sound bar still works otherwise, no issues. That might be because I went “full Samsung,” tv and sound bar, but I’ll take it. Great!

Just a few drawbacks:

  • I can’t change the volume with my TV remote at all. The number will go up and down, but no change in actual volume. This makes sense— the devices now operate independently, not connected by CEC. Effectively this means that I have one remote for picture, and one remote for audio.
  • Because the devices work separately now, I won’t be able to turn them on all at once. I used to be able to power on my PlayStation, which would power on my soundbar, which would power on my television. No more— each one is a separate button now.

But these are small compromises to make until I can buy a new anything-but-Samsung television.

Is this fixed yet?   Sonos sound bar here on QN90B ...pretty ridiculous w a 75 inch screen warning me that volume is going up/down.

I decided to chat with Samsung support and insist it be sent to a tech department or someone, I don’t know if they’ll actually send it, but I made sure to explain that it ruins the experience when it pops up and takes up almost half the screen, and it should be a simple setting to turn off. Maybe everyone should start asking the question to the support team if they get enough inquiries and complaints to people maybe something will happen who knows. This is such an oversight in a bad design on Samsung, which is weird with them being one of the number one TV brands.
