I'm using a 4-year old 50" Samsung AU9000 and half the screen is dark suggesting it's a back light issue. What sets this apart is that yesterday and for a while the other half of the screen has been dark and the side that is currently dark was bright. This suggests that the LED's are working but there is a faulty connector of some sort. Is there a way to fix this without sending it in for a repair?

Please see my post. I would turn your TV off and unplug it from the wall as it may well go on fire like mine did as it sounds like the LED panel is failing.
Samsung really do not care about the safety of its customers and this issue is highlighted by doing a simple Google search.
Samsung need to recall all TV's that have this issue before a fatality occurs.
