I've tried to look it up on the app and online, but I couldn't find a way to set the mat mode for the pictures I batch uploaded from the USB drive. And it always set the default ugly mat that doesn't blend in to the environment at all. The ugly mat really takes away from the "real picture frame" experience.
The only way I to work around this is to first select each individual art work and customize the mat. It is extremely tedious if I have 100+ art work upload each time... (Even worse, after I select each art work, customize the mat and go back. It jumps back to the beginning of my album... It is really hard to track which art work I have set the frame and which I haven't)
It'll be great if there was an option to set the default mat for all pictures in the app's settings!

I actually wrote an extensive writeup here with a complete guide with setup on both phone and mac, with instructions for installing homebrew and the complete AppleScript, but I think it was removed by the moderators here. I used probably 30 minutes to write it all up, but didn't copy the text before posting and now it's seemingly all gone. Honestly I can't be bothered typing it all out again if the mods are going to remove it once over, so here's the short version. Use ChatGPT to guide you through the process if you need help.
Mac:
- Update macOS to Sequoia
- Install homebrew and cliclick
- Create a looping script for screen clicking with cliclick in Automator (create action as AppleScript). Use 4 sec delay between clicks for reliabilty.
iPhone:
- Install SmartThings app
- Open remote
- Mirror phone within macOS
Use "cliclick p | pbcopy" in terminal to find onscreen coordinates for remote buttons, and map to click sequence in AppleScript. I can't remember the exact sequence, but I think it was down/down/confirm/right/right/confirm/left (loop).
Run script until all images are fixed.

I have a related question and several issues.
When I apply a mat to art from the Frame art store, with the exception of the last choice— basically the art mounted on a board—every other mat cuts off the edges of the art rather than reducing the size of the image to fit in the opening of the mat. That is infuriating. That means I can only display part of a work if i want to use a mat. I can’t believe that’s how it is designed.
Also there does not seem to be any ability to customize anything. Not even color choices. Most of the available choices are pretty bad and choosing an appropriate color is quite nuanced depending on the work itself. Also why shouldn’t you be able to specify the dimensions of the mat? They are storing other information for each image, adding those options should be trivial.
And while I’m on the subject why can’t you set a brightness level for individual pictures? Or, why isn’t there a function to adjust the brightness based on either the brightness of the room, for which they have a sensor, or the time of day?
We pay a premium for a TV so we can display this art. Why is the implementation so primitive?.
