Hi

I have an almost brand new Samsung UE43CU7020KXXU Smart TV and I’d like to use my Samsung DVD-H1080R DVD player with it via an HDMI cable but it doesn’t seem to be working.

I have tried 2 different HDMI cables but I know that both those cables and the DVD player work as I have tested them in another TV. When I plug in the player the TV doesn’t recognise it and says there might be an issue with the cable, which I know isn’t true as explained above.

I’ve tried all the HDMI ports and I get the same message saying “Check Device Power” I know the DVD player is on because I can hear it and see the power light. The DVD player also seems to turn automatically when I switch to the right source like it does on my other TV.

If anyone can help I’d be super grateful as I really have no idea what could be wrong! Thanks🙂

Hi! Welcome to the samsung members community!!

Double-check that you're selecting the correct HDMI input on your TV. Sometimes, even though the DVD player seems to trigger the TV to switch, it might not be the exact correct HDMI channel.

Check the DVD players settings to ensure the HDMI output is turned on, and that it isn't set to a mode that your TV doesn't understand.

Although the DVD player should auto-negotiate, try manually setting the DVD player's output resolution to 1080p or 720p. You may need to connect it to a working TV temporarily to do this.

Ensure your Samsung TV has the latest firmware/software updates. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility problems. Go to your TV's settings menu and look for "Software Update" or similar.

Turn off both the TV and the DVD player.

Unplug the TV from the power outlet for a few minutes (at least 1-2 minutes).

Plug the TV back in and turn it on
Then, turn on the DVD player and try again.

Hi John, I have tried all you suggest several times to no avail. Just a black screen where the dVD screen should show.  How can I check the dvd's settings when I can't see its screen? I have brand new HDMI cable, new control block, which the dvd player will not recognise, and the tv is only 1y old.  Should I ditch the player or the tv or both?  I never had these problems with Sony equipment!

What I would say at this point is to check if it works on another device and see if you can boot it up. Checking the settings

Being that the Samsung DVD-H1080R DVD player was released something like 16 years ago, I would say replacing it may be the best option.
