Sdcard encrypted files still readable when tablet is locked?

I have an ftp server running on my tablet so I can manually copy my files to/from my desktop. I also have folder-sync to automatically sync my daily photos folder (on s-card) with my desktop every night.

Yesterday I have encrypted my Galaxy Tab Active sdcard and it was my understanding that the files would have been gibberish when the tablet is locked. Instead, folder-sync still works when I am asleep, and I can also access my sdcard files via ftp as GUEST when the tablet is locked.

Is this normal? Sdcard content is accessible even when the phone is locked.

(I don't have an sdcard reader to physically remove the card and test it on another device, but it says 'sdcard is encrypted' in the tablet settings).

If the SDCard is encrypted, it means the "data at rest" on the physical card is encrypted.  If you were to physically take the card out and try to use it on another system without the correct key, it would be giberish.   When you have it in your tablets SD slot, the device has the key to decrypt the data and use it on the system and is no longer "data at rest."  It has nothing to-do with the tablet being locked/on standby or not.  You have to physically turn it off to be safe if you are running an insecure FTP server.   The FTP server you are running, should have a way to disable guest access.  If you do not want it to have access to the SD card, you need to remove permissions of the FTP server android app from being able to access the SD card.
