Hi
Got my new device but for the life of me i cannot get my pc to access it so i can move files back and forth. My phone and old device on the same cable are all fine. i have checked every setting (its on file transfer) and nothing. The phone is detected by the pc and shows up on file manager (windows ) but all i get is "cannot copy file, The device has either stopped working or been disconnected) i have never had this issue with my other android Samsung devices before. i think i have checked everything and even tried different cables. Very frustrating. Please help.

Try to reset the settings of the USB port of your phone. To do this, go to Applications and Activate "Show system applications" by tapping the 3 lines to the right of Your Apps, select ok.
Find the USB settings app and in storage, delete the cache and data. Restart the device and see if that makes a difference.
However could try to set a default via Developer Options? Developer Options-Default USB Configuration, Transferring Files.
If Developer options not set up Go to Settings-About Phone and tap Build Number 7 times. Will need to enter password ,Pin or Pattern at this point. See more details here: https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-turn-on-the-developer-options-menu-on-my-....
otherwise could try other options such as Smart Switch or Bluetooth https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-transfer-photos-from-my-smartphone-to-my-...
I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.

Check if you don't have autoblocker enabled, just type it on the settings search prompt.

it is switched on, so turn it off? this may have been preventing the file transfers?

yeap, that should be the blocking point here
as you can see below, by having it enabled, connection to the laptop will be blocked
"Blocks commands by USB cable
Malicious chargers, computers, and other devices won’t be able to send commands to your phone when connected using a USB cable. This prevents unauthorized access and manipulation of your device and data through USB commands."

I had the same problem and discovered the solution:
Your computer must have a USB C port either micro USB C or normal USB C port to which your cable must be connected. Otherwise, the folders will not appear.
Then allow access to the data of your tablet.
Hope this helps.
