Just purchased a Galaxy Tab A7 and when using the front facing camera for zoom or whatever, i notice the light sensor freaks out, regardless of what room I'm in. The image is constantly trying to adjust to the light level. I've also noticed adaptive brightness seems to be wonky.
Do I have a faulty light sensor in my brand new tablet? Any thoughts?

adaptive brightness is rubbish on these tablets, I have disabled it on mine. The camera seems okay though, I haven't noticed mine freaking out. There are some self diagnostics tests you can run on the tablet in the Members app. Tap on the Get Help headset icon at the bottom of the app's start page and then use the diagnostics from there
