A11+ Screen goes black

Hi.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+ 256 gb

When using the tablet, the screen sometimes randomly goes black.

The tablet is still switched on, but the side button doesn't seem to wake it up. Neither does double tapping in portrait orientation.

If I turn it to landscape and tap, this seems to work. This fault occurs whether I have screen rotation locked or not. Have removed Face recognition.

Am I doing something wrong?

I am suspecting something is wrong with the tablet itself.

My old Samsung tablet doesn't do this and I am familiar with how they work.

Can anyone help, or have experienced the same issue

Hi Andrew, I sent the old tablet back and got a new one. Same problem.

I googled the Life out of it, but no information was forthcoming.

I then went on Amazon, where I got the cover from. Searched the reviews for the cover, and 1 review mentioned that the cover magnet was too strong and affected the sensors in the tablet. Removed the cover and the problem is gone.

Have put a different cover on and all is OK. Old cover going back to Amazon.

Thanks for all your advice, I thought you might like to know the solution. Cheers buddy 👍

@Chilly9999: As far as I know, your tablet's orientation should not affect your ability to wake the screen when it goes idle. You may wish to try swiping down from the top right corner of the Home screen > Press and hold on the Auto rotate icon > Toggle on 'Lock screen' > Done. I'd also recommend restarting your Tab A11+ to refresh the software and resolve any temporary performance issues.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Andrew. Thank you for your reply.

I've tried everything you suggested already. It just randomly goes black while I'm using it in portrait. Screen off timer is set to 1 minute, so it's not that. But if I rotate to landscape, sometimes the screen comes back on. Doesn't seem to do it in Landscape 🤔 think it's going back 😕

Back up and do a factory reset? Maybe that will help.

@Chilly9999: Are you accessing a particular app at the time, or performing a certain action? Does the screen go dark while you're physically interacting with the touch screen?

If you haven't tried this already, please head to Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures > Double tap to turn off screen, and toggle this option off.

Also, head to Settings > Display > Screen timeout > Increase the time beyond your current choice e.g 5 minutes > Keep screen on while viewing > On.

Hi Andrew. No particular app being used, sometimes it's on the home screen. Have turned off double tap and face recognition. Have screen on while viewing. Haven't tried time yet. Unit is packaged up for collection tomorrow. I'll keep you updated when I get the new one. Many thanks for all your help 👍 Appreciate your time

@Chilly9999: No problem. Hopefully this was just an anomaly, and your replacement tablet offers a smoother experience. This isn't an issue that I've encountered before, so I'm fairly confident that you won't encounter it again. I understand that you may have arranged a replacement, but I'd still recommend performing a factory data reset, a suggested by @Star_girl, as this will help to determine if the problem is stemming form an external source, or a temporary software/hardware issue.

@Chilly9999: I see where you're coming from, however if you back up your device via Samsung Cloud and Google Drive (Settings > Accounts and backup) then setting your tablet back up following the reset should be relatively painless. For further guidance, please take a look at the link below.
