My custom notification sounds are not showing up to be selected on my Gal A50

Hi,

Because this thing is absolutely driving me nuts for quite some time i ended posting here before.

I have a Samsung Galaxy A50 for some time and however i try, check different settings or online documentation or tutorials. I just can't find a reasonable explanation as to why my custom self made loop notification sounds don't appear in the selection screen to be selected.

I have installed several mp3 songs on it and i can choose them as a ringtone. But the 10 something custom mp3 sounds i installed are just never showing up to be selected.

I tried moving them all to the notification sounds folder > nope

Moved them to the music/audio folder > nope

Triple checked every possible setting > nope

Converted all of them from mp3 to other file formats > nope

Installed Samsung music player and not only does he discovers all of them without a problem, all the clips play perfectly fine in it.

So yeah what is wrong with this model that i can't customize my own mp3 notification sounds on it? I have been able to this on even older Samsung Galaxy models in the past?

Let's see if we can sort this out. I'm on a S24U, so not sure how much differs in the UI for a A50, so let's do this together :smiling-face:

First of - you should have them in the "Notifications" folder as you said you tried, but make sure this is in the internal storage.

Then in the application you want to use the custom sound in, go settings, notifications, and sound and you should be prompted to pick a app for selecting the sound. I have Zedge, but for this you should use "SecSoundPicker" (native app for that).

 Then you should be able to see the files that you added to the internal notifications folder;

If it doesn't look like this in your A50, could you share screenshots on what happens? (you can redact phone numbers or other sensitive data before sharing).

Hi Oxygenic,

First and foremost my apologies for this very late reply, just didn't have the time to investigate this further until today.

So i checked different things you mentioned in your post like if the songs and my self made notification tunes were in the internal storage?

Well they actually always were present in the internal storage. I did however notice/question myself about  something.

Usually when i have a new phone i upload some of my favourite songs in mp3 format to use as a ringtone for when i receive a call i also don't mind if these songs are lengthy 3+min as i make it stop when i answer a call.

But for notfications i prefer to use short little sounds of 5-20sec as i don't want to hear a whole song play each time i get notified of someting. So for that purpose in addition of the previously mentioned full length songs i always upload a small library of selfmade little sounds i create in audacity (5-20sec), usually little skits of movies, from old tv series or whatever else i find fun.

So both the full length songs as the short little sounds were all visible in the internal storage window.

But when i went to the actual settings to choose a tune for a call or a notification each time only the full length songs were available for selection and none of my little sounds were visible.

So this made me think there might be a problem with the length of the song/sound. So i tested this theory by uploading a random full length mp3 of a song and yes that 3+min song was immediately visible for selection.

I now had to figure out how long (in sec) a song should be to be recognized by the system to be selectable in the settings menu. After a few tests i found out that the minimum length of a tune to be selectable in the settings menu had to be 40sec.

So to work around this problem i had to rework all my 18 little selfmade notification mp3 sounds (5-15sec in length) in Audacity by generating a silence on each tune  so they technically all became 40sec in length.

When i reuploaded those 18 tunes reformatted to 40 sec they now all were visible in the settings menu and now work that way.

I dunno why they implemented a seemingly minimum length policy for ring and notification tones on this particular model. On my previous phone which was a Xiaomi and the ones before that who were Samsung i never had any problem selecting tunes smaller than 40sec. Quite stupid stuff actually.

So yeah as my notification sounds now work thanks to this workaround i guess my problem is solved. I just hope Samsung takes note of this and removes that 40sec minimum requirement for tunes.

(PS: wanted to add screenshots but the forume just wouldn't upload my pics sorry)
