I had a S8+ and yes the Android 9 was the last one. My phone died before the Android 10 came about so can't say if it would have received the higher software update

The phone is going strong with plenty of free memory so I see no need to change to another.

Unfortunately I have just had one app (Fidelity Netbenefits) changes its prereq Android level to 10,  not a critical app but I suspect it is only time before others follow suit

Here on June 5th, 2024 and lots of apps, especially financial ones like banks and credit cards are saying I won't be able to use the S8+ much longer on their apps if I don't have at least Android 10.  The option for me looks like a new phone or keep using the one I have (where I can) and get on the computer for apps that stop working.

You can update it higher than 9 on on or with Odin

My S8 is still going strong too. Various apps are not letting me install them / their updates whilst I am on Android 9. They want Android 10. I'm absolutely gutted, I really dont want to have to buy a new phone when mine works perfectly fine, battery life is still great and no problems at all.

Yes but you need to transfer your files to a computer. This is because there is a chance that during the update your phone will get corrupted. You can use samsung smart switch or android file transfer. Also you need to start a force update to your phone DO NOT unplug your phone from your computer because if you do YOUR PHONE WILL BE CORRUPTED!!! use a computer its the only way.
