Yes. I'm in the same situation. It was very helpful! Now, I need to go to the top and then go back down to start typing. Very sad...

Hi,
It is correct. This function is not available right now via home up application. I would say: send a bug report and pictures to the developers. You can do this via the Samsung members app via support. Choose applications.
There is another good solution to help you with a temporary fix. Probably you will also keep that one as a second way to open apps.
Go the Google play store and download an app called "app search" from developer Axalotl9
You can do some settings to make this app more your own how you like it.
Try some settings to see whatever you like. In my case I changed some colors to fit my theme and I've set it to list mode. It works fantastic!
You can also use it as a search bar on your desktop and choose what kind of widget. A small app symbol or a search bar.
Hope this helps you. Don't forget the bug report. We all should do that and ask the developer home up to fix this issue.
Regards,
David

This is very useful information. I have the google widget on my home page and it will actually search your apps as well. It is effectively the same thing as having the search feature automatically pop up when you swipe down. Thanks David!

Hi,
Yes, that's correct. Google search bar works too but it is annoying. When typing the first letters of apps they are hiding behind my keyboard. Then you have to close keyboard to see the app icons. For me this app search bar works fantastic. It is whatever you prefer. It works better in that case because your search text is just pure searching after apps, not Google websites and stuff. It works directly to the apps and you just see them and open them directly.
I hope the home up module will bring back this feature. I don't know why they removed this feature because it was very handy.
Anyway, we'll have to wait and see I guess 😅
Have a good day
David

I have found a work around using the hand operation plus and setting a shortcut to open finder when long downward swiping.
