Stuck on Android 13

Hello, my husbands s21 won't install or download software updates and the last one was last year in September. He bought this refurbished from Giffgaff but it seems to be an American device as the number is G991U (He wasn't aware of this on purchase). It just doesn't not want to give any updates at all. I have the same phone but is G991B and has had several updates since September but his just won't give any! Anyone any ideas on what to do other than flashing it as don't really want to do that. Hi, and welcome to the community.

If Giffgaff were advertising it as for use in the UK i.e. as a UK handset, then they should be refunding you. You'll need to speak to Giffgaff about it.

Hiya thank you for getting back to me. They won't refund it and have advised that I need to send it to them for them to repair it but that would mean flashing it I think and I don't want that. I got a newer one to avoid all this! Will try Giffgaff again as I think they should be replacing it or refunding. Thanks😄

Unbelievable. No, a repair is definitely not flashing it. Besides, it's not faulty. Flashing brings with it, its own headaches. I'm shocked they even suggested it.

Thanks for bringing light to the fact that I should never deal with Giffgaff. They sound like a right bunch of cowboys.

I hope they do the right thing and refund you. You have consumer rights, don't be afraid to use them. Threaten them with small claims. I bet they'll change their stance then.

Have you been trying to update directly on the phone? If so have you tried using smart switch on pc for firmware update as I had an issue once where a phone wouldn't update via OTA on the phone and would only update on pc.

To use Smart Switch to update your phone, you will need to download this service onto a computer. You can find the relevant links for doing this under the section titled "Download now" via the following webpage:

Once you have downloaded Smart Switch, please follow the steps below:

> Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable, and then open Smart Switch on your computer.
> If a software update is available, Smart Switch will automatically prompt you to download this.
> Click "Update", and use the on-screen prompts to download the necessary files.
> Click "OK" to proceed. Your phone may turn off and on a few times during the update process.

When the update is complete, the phone will boot as normal. Please may you give this a try and let us know if you are now able to update your phone?
