I've just brought my son a galaxy S21 ultra for Christmas. I'm really happy with it but I have read that it will only get security updates until early 2026. Is this the case and if so, can I use an anti-virus to mitigate the ongoing security threat?

Hi @Mike2798 and warm welcome 👋
I'm glad you are happy with s21 ultra, I still have my old s21 ultra and till this day it's still great device.
Now, the device will receive last major update next year, which will be ONE UI 7, and after that will receive security updates till 2026.
In terms of anti-virus you can install it, but it won't be as good as like on your PC as phone security updates is for a reason, as it designed to solve new security issues that might have occurred, or new bug that might appeared so installing anti-virus won't do much.
Best thing to do would be upgrade after device is no longer supported.

The S21 ultra is a good phone. Considering it was released in 2021. The phone has received monthly security updates over the last 3 years. When it gets to next year. It'll be downgraded to quarterly updates, meaning it'll receive security updates in two months. You can consider upgrading to the S24 series it's guaranteed 7 yrs of updates.

Thanks both, I may return it and get him something with a bit more longevity. It's a real shame as it's a great phone!
