Whenever I insert a SIM card, it asks me for a PUK code. I've contacted Tesco Mobile, my provider, about this, but none of the PUK codes they've given me have worked.

Like @-Robot- has mentioned, I'd definitely advise reaching out to the retailer/individual from who you've purchased the phone*. Alternatively, if you're able to, head down to your mobile network provider in-store as it may be quicker to sort this than the back-and-forth over calls.
