Hello everybody,

I have a feeling that this issue has been posted the 100th time and I think I've read them all but could not find any solution that works.

I just received my Samsung Galaxy S21 and I'm struggling with the notifications.

What I want is that when I receive a notification it wakes up my lock screen or AOD briefly. When I'm working with my smartphone on my desk I know I got a notification that's all.

I enabled the brief popup but it only works and wake up the phone if it's a text message through the Samsung Messenger. All other services such as WhatsApp, Twitter, Teams, Outlook are all not waking up the screen.

I do get a vibration when something arrives but the screen stays black. If I tap to show the AOD or lock screen the notification is right there.

I layed my phone next to the one of my colleague because he has the exact same model and all our settings about notifications and AOD are the same..

To be honest, it is really killing me inside. Can somebody help me out please or confirm that this is a general issue?

Thank you for any response.

Appreciate it! So when your screen is locked, does your entire screen wakeup when you have a notification? And if so, does it show the entirety of the notification? Under Settings -> Notifications -> Notification pop-up style I have mine set to "detailed" but it doesn't wake the screen.

However if I switch to "brief" I have the option to select "show even while screen is off", and it does wake the screen. The only issue is that it just shows a tiny notification at the top of the screen and it doesn't wake the entire screen like it did a couple weeks ago.

That's it. Thats the way samsung notifications work. It never wakes the entire screen on. Just the pop up when you set it brief and nothing, only sound when you keep it to detailed. Before you had the option to set it to detailed while screen was on and pop up when screen was off. (I hate that useless pop up style who doesn't give you enough info). Sadly, they removed even that. But if you want to wake up the entire screen when a notification arrives go and install glimse from the playstore. Crazy to use a third-party app for such a simple thing but gets the job done and works good. Samsung just gets worse updates after updates

This is insane. It's end of 2025 and the issue is still there. Just got my S25 Ultra and this issue is bothering me so much. There's no fix?

Do you also have the Galaxy watch? If so, look for my fix in the comments.

I don't have a Galaxy watch. As mentioned in previous responses, it olny works in "Brief" pop-up style mode. Nothing shows up when the screen is off when it's in "Detailed" because "screen off" setting is only valid for the Brief pop-up. That's such BS.

Same here I don't have the watch but now I don't even get brief or detailed when my screen is off. It just pops up and says "message"  I miss LG and MOTOROLA. Verizon said if I wanted the best version of either of those phones I should get the GOOGLE phone. Ooh hell no! They have no tech support and I've seen so many more complaints. Horrible reviews. It's either Samsung or Apple. And they're in the battle to have the best features.  They forget all the glitches it comes with and we get after the updates. It's ridiculous. They're tech team never can fix anything. Their solution is send your Samsung phone to us and we'll look into it. Umm it's a simple glitch that is universal so put out a new update that takes care of ALL the glitches and stop adding new features.

Yeah. Asking to hand over your device to debug a simple software-related issue is one of the silliest requests. I can't believe it has been like this for almost half a decade, and they're doing nothing about it. I suppose the developers who refuse to provide a native app lock for millions of users begging for one would hardly care about something like this. I love this device. My first Samsung device. But coming from a OnePlus device, things like this boil my blood.

I agree 100%! My boyfriend and sister both say they never have issues with their Apple phones but I'm so used to Android. I live in what they call Tornado alley and I get NO service alerts either anymore. Like I said they would rather you send it in our buy a new one then to listen to the customers complaints. But as long as they compete with Apple we're not going to see simple little issues that could be fixed. Update/patch is all we need. I don't get it. They also told me to take to the nearest Samsung store. I live in BFE and there is NO such store. Verizon said you could bring the phone to us but it's 2 guys that don't work for Verizon but we recommend them. I called them and they said you HAVE to leave your phone with them for 3-4 hours. Umm no. I don't do trade ins and I definitely will not leave my phone work two men i don't know. Personally I think it's a simple fix but to hear them it's not.

Well, I AM a developer and I know this isn't rocket science. It's a very simple patch. They simply are way too busy competing and not listening to their own users.
