Same problem. Some photos are backed up in Google Photos, but only the albums that I had set to back up in my settings. The other albums are lost. Also annoying that the albums I use to organize my photos in Gallery do not sync with Google Photos, so all organization is lost too. I didn't change any settings and Google Photos has never done something like this before.
