How to use excel without a subscription?

I have excel on my mobile device and did not need to purchase a subscription to use it, how come i need to purchase a subscription on my newly purchased galaxy tab 7 fe?

Try polaris office .. It's ideal for my s10 and s21 at looking at pdf's and Word, Excel... but not registered. There are a few add's
