gallery layout keeps changing

The layout in gallery keeps changing if I click in the wrong place. See screenshot. I don't want the side bar of albums showing. I just want to open an album and view its thumbnails.

But I pressed or moved something on the screen and the sidebar pops up again.

How do I get rid of it? It's driving me mad...!

Gidday Andrew. This used to work on my s20 but on the s22+ I swipe right to keep the album panel and it won't stay, it brings the panel up as long as I'm holding down a photo to swipe  but the minute I let go it reverts back to the open album and the panel disappears.

Ideas?

It is seamlessly working on my Note 9 thank you. Open an album swipe right to display side bar swipe left to close it.

Is there a way to fully turn it off ? Because it's completely useless and really anoying! I accidentally open it ALL THE TIME, which is really frustrating! If I wanna see all albums that's literally just one tap away. This "shortcut" takes longer to execute than just tapping "back".

Thank you so much I did something and this was driving me mad! Couldn't figure out what happened!!

That doesn't really work to get rid of it permanently,  I'm trying to highlight multiple videos and pictures to delete so I can declutter but when I get to the bottom of the page the side menu comes up which is annoying as hell
