I've seen similar posts from years ago, but is anyone else getting hammered by the most recent Android update (May 2025)? My S9 updated about a week ago, and is not doing well... at all. Temps are running hot - from a little hot to the point where you can't have it in your pocket. Battery life... what battery life? It's hard to even keep it charged. Wireless charging... nope. Phone is too hot, so it pauses wireless charging. This perfectly operating phone went to paralysis and life-support with one update.
Anyone else?

Thanks so much for the reply. Yes, the S9 is the smartphone I'm referring to. All of our phones, the S9, S23, and S24 Ultra received updates last week. It wreaked havoc to some degree on all of them. The S23 and S24 Ultra received updates that are more typically noticed like icon design changes and cosmetics, but those phones also all got flipped to dark mode, and had app group folders disassembled or removed and other user preferences either altered or deleted. The S9 took on a few changes, logged out of everything (and is now repeatedly persistent on 2FA on everything and doesn't seem to want to remember the status). Messages when to RCS which seems to really be tasking the phone, so I've disabled RCS to see that will reduce the impact. All phones have been owned new, and all straight from the in-person Verizon store.

I have same problem with Galaxy S9+. Battery drains completely in 3-4 hours. Started suddenly on April 29, 2025. Haven't found a permanent solution. Most promising fix was temporary. Cleared Cache for both Google Play Services and Google Play Store . Helped for one day, then back to constant Battery Drain. Has anyone heard about a permanent fix?

I never found a solution, and hoped that it would eventually settle down. I think it started running not so hot all the time, but battery consumption remained through the roof to the point where sometimes consumption was almost outrunning its ability to charge. It is without question a consumption issue though (and not faulty battery) not only because of the timing with all the other updates we incurred, but because the battery charges just fine (and quickly) with the phone powered off (which was sometimes required to keep up). Don't know what they did, but they virtually ruined the phone with whatever came down the pipe. After seeing so many relatives have their older iPhones completely tank shortly after an update, we used to somewhat joke about a conspiracy theory that it was the manufacturer's way of getting people to upgrade. Hopefully, that's only a conspiracy theory, but in this case it worked. Operating this way was simply nonsufficient for a business day, so I had to migrate to a new phone rather than burn life minutes possibly with no solution. Unfortunately, had to say good-bye to having an SD card, and I'll hold a grudge for that design change probably forever because I netted nearly zero memory gain with the brand new phone.

As of May 12, 2025, the problem appears to be fixed. Battery Drain is back to normal. I'm thinking the problem was due to a Google update because other things have suddenly changed, such as placement of icons on home screen. Also, the severe battery drain problem always highlighted Google Play Services as a heavy user of batter resources. Anyway, my Samsung Galaxy S9 + phone is back to normal, for the time being.
