I am trying to do a factory reset on my old S8 before giving it away. I started with the menu approach, but the system asked for a password before it would wipe my data. I tried all the variants I could remember, but it rejected them all.
So then I went the three button route. I brought up the Android Recovery menu and selected 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset'.
In response I got an error message "fail to open recovery_cause (no such file or directory". The software redisplayed the Android Recovery menu and no data was wiped. I tried this several times with the same result.
How can I get this factory reset done?

Thanks, Paul.
I have tried again and this time it has worked. Not sure why it didn't before, but the phone is reset now.
