Call Volume hurting my ears when wired; Too loud

Hello! I'm currently holding a warm pack to my neck/the back of my jaw to relieve the sharp ear pain caused by answering a call for the first time with headphones plugged in. I'd prefer to not have to visit an urgent care clinic on Christmas eve, but I am seriously considering it.

This phone appears to switch sound to some sort of call/communications volume track which will not allow the volume to be lowered below what looks to be about 10-20% with either buttons or manual adjustment.

How do I lower the call volume below this pre-set minimum? When using any wired headphones (we've tried 3 from different brands; two USB-C and one 3.5mm through an adapter) the call volume is loud enough that my earbuds can be heard across the room.

Try searching under settings for
1. Adapt sound and
2. Media volume limit.

Both of the above will help your case.

Although I feel its your headphones which might be the issue.

Try Bluetooth headphones from a reliable brand.

Call volume is not deafeningly high while wireless, I should have specified. I require the use of IEM-style earbuds, thus the wired connection. Of the earbuds tested we included one that's Samsung to rule out my IEMs being the problem, so I would certainly hope "reliable brands" are not an issue. xD

Adapt sound is disabled entirely, and the media volume limit has already been set lower than stock with a PIN. Unfortunately the media volume limit has no effect on call volume. Media volume can be lowered to adequate levels as it is anyway.

Thanks for taking the time though. ;;

Why not use the adapt sound and see if it helps .

I've gone through the test and set a profile, which does make sense to have done. Unfortunately it has had no effect on the "Call Volume" track which is still ear-splittingly loud. 😞

If I download an app that forces the phone into "call" mode such as Discord, the same issue occurs where any audio on the "Call" track is loud. If I use Discord to test this instead of a phone call (since I can lower the in-app volume), I can see that lowering an app's volume to about 30-40% makes it bearable, meaning I would need to lower the system's "call" volume to about a third of where the system currently forces the slider to stop.

This is incredibly frustrating. 😞 Thank you again though for the suggestions.

  1. Same problem. My ast Samsung phone was fine. My latest one has ear splitting volume levels if I get a call when earphones plugged in. Ludicrous that it isn't set to the same level as media (which is fine).
