4G Performance on Exynos S21 Ultra is waaayyy slower than an S10+ or S20+

Hi

Has anybody else noticed that the S21 Ultra doesn't seem to deliver consistent and reliable 4G speeds, particularly in terms of 4G uploading. I've done a comparison between my S21 Ultra and a S10+ both on the same network (EE) and the results are shocking.

The S21 Ultra simply doesn't consistently reach the same levels and upload is extremely weak for me - seems to take the phone a number of second to "wake up" and send any data over 4G.

WiFi is fine but the 4G speeds are pushing me to return the phone.

Have others noticed the same issue?

Interestingly, Samsung seem curious, which makes me think that there's been other similar reports. It would be strange if everything else works ok to believe this is a fault with the phone.

Thanks.

My Whatsapp, text messages and emails send and are received very quickly. I have Whatsapp'd/texted a message to someone and they have received it almost instantaneously on 4G/LTE.

I really feel that there is a problem, most likely at EE's end.

Here are the EE APN and MMS settings that I use...

Apologies but the type face is faint on my phone for these.

Thanks, I've the same settings.

I ran "measure network latency" app and compared to a S10+, seems that generally latency is longer on the S21, there are also instances whereby the latency hits over 500ms on the S21. That doesn't happen on the S10, which use changes cells, whereas the S21 sticks on one cell... interesting...

My signal, here in the sticks, leaves a lot to be desired. Here is a screenshot of my -dbm and ASU.

Settings > About phone > Status information > SIM card status >Signal strength

EE signal strength.jpeg

The lower the -dBm the better

The higher the asu the better.

Sorry, I am out of ideas apart from contacting EE.

That sounds promising. Mind sharing your latency figures? measure network latency app seems to do the job. Try 1s delay, and 100x http queries. If no yellow, orange or red then that might a good sign.

WiFi and mobile data. my 4g speeds aren't that good in my area.

hmm... I suspect you may be on the same firmware as me.? I.e. the one that installed when you first switched the phone on?

Would suggest ee or my specific phone has a problem.

But latency is very good, well for a bad area.

yep. you'll have to perform the same test after the update and see if it's better.
