Samsung "My files" no longer display all folders

Until recently I could see (and manage) all of the directories in the internal storage of my Note 10 in the Samsung “My files” app.

However, it now shows only 7 of the 29 directories there, even after enabling “Show hidden system files”.

How can I get back the complete display of directories and files in “My files”?

When browsing internal storage, press on the downward arrow with essentials written and change it to "All".

Thanks, exactly what I needed! 🙂

I wonder why Samsung telephone support couldn't tell me that ;-{

While this works for surface level folders I found that even with this 99% in the "Android" Sub-directory were missing, and only viewable on a desktop machine. What's up with that?

with the S22 my file app does to show files in /internal storage/android/data?   Stats show zero files in directory.    I am looking for folder org.awallet.free/files/data.crypt ,,

oddly, this doesn't seem to work anymore. Even with "All" enabled at the surface level, files and folders within the /android directory won't appear on the device itself. I've looked through developer options but cant seem to find much.

Thank you very much for this very valuable advice! Finally the files show as I like it.

This behavior likely stems from how Android handles file indexing and permissions, potentially coupled with a temporary caching issue that's resolved when connecting to a PC.
Here's a breakdown:
  1. 1. File Indexing & Permissions:
Android's "My Files" app may not immediately index all files or folders, especially if permissions are restricted for certain apps or file types. This can lead to some files being hidden or not appearing in the app's interface.

  2. 2. USB Connection Triggers Rescan/Indexing:
When you connect your phone to a PC via USB, the phone's file system is accessed and potentially rescanned or re-indexed. This process can force the phone to update its file listing, causing "My Files" to display all files upon disconnection.

  3. 3. Cached Data:
A temporary cache within "My Files" might be responsible for the initial absence of some files. Connecting to a PC could trigger a cache refresh or data update, resulting in the files becoming visible after disconnection.

In essence, the USB connection acts as a trigger for the phone to update its file system and indexing, leading to a more comprehensive view of files within the "My Files" app.

To further investigate, consider:
  • Checking app permissions:
Ensure that the "My Files" app has the necessary permissions to access all files on your phone.

  • Clearing cache:
Clearing the cache and data of the "My Files" app might resolve temporary issues with file visibility.

  • Restarting the phone:
A simple restart can sometimes refresh the file system and resolve glitches related to file indexing.
