Samsung Health not auto tracking cycling (bicycle)

Hi everyone,

It seems Samsung Health doesn't auto track when I go cycling. It will pick up the steps I walk my bike with, but as soon as I'm on it, it's as though I dissapear and no exercise is logged.

Google Fit auto tracks the same cycling exercises correctly.

Is there any setting I'm missing in Samsung Health to enable this? Or is SH incapable of this sort of tracking?

Have you tested manually selecting a cycling workout and seeing if it tracks accurately when manually selected?

I've only ever had my watch auto detect walking or running, never tried cycling.

I have, I tried it earlier and that part seems to work. However not useable as I commute on a bike, and occasionally I'll have a turn by turn nav app on that which samsung health then interferes with. Have no problems with Fit however, it auto tracks all my cycling as cycling, no need to enable it etc.

I wonder why SH won't auto track cycling...Am I missing something?

Ah hang on - did you say you've got another app open that is using some of the same functionality potentially?

If I record a walk on Strava via my watch, Samsung Health doesn't auto detect a workout the same as it does if I record the walk on my phone instead. I believe if there's conflicting apps trying to use the same functions or data then only one app at a time can access the info.

So for example if you've got Google Fit already running on it and auto detecting your workout and recording the health data, Samsung Health can't likely also use the sensors at the same time. Nor can it use your location or GPS maybe if your map app or Fit are using it?

Something to test?

Ah only rarely do I have a navigation (osmand) app open during cycling. I'd expect everything to malfunction when that's open, it takes over the phone.

I did have to think twice about your thoughts on running Fit at the same time! However then I remembered that both will auto track steps etc and both share other health data seamlessly (except, annoyingly, Fit won't share the cycling with SH)

Thank you

What I do is, via Health Connect, have Samsung Health have full access rights to read/write all data, and then Google Fit can read all data from Samsung Health. It imports my workouts (walks etc) into Google Fit that way. The two don't always 100% match up in my experience but it does mean I get all the info on both.1737748904678.jpg

Yep that's what I've got too mate! Everything's carried over except for the cycling. It's worth me looking into as the cycling is just a bit part of my daily exercises
