S8+: How to get apps on my Start screen

I am trying to place apps on my home screen but it is not working. If I keep pressing the icon, 4 choices will appear. However, adding to Start is grayed out and doesn't work.
What is the solution ? Thanks in advance.

Try to restart the phone, that usually helps with issues like this

Settings>display>home screen>lock home screen layout 

Make sure you have this option off, hope this helps
