@taz25: Please can you let me know the model number and current Android version of the device you're accessing the Contacts app on? I have checked devices running Android 13 and Android 14, and both do not feature a default 'My contacts' group, although there is a default 'Emergency contacts' which cannot be deleted.
If you have tried pressing and holding on the group, and the option to delete it is not available, then it may well be an embedded feature. In this instance, you are still able to create new groups, and include the same contacts in multiple groups. It does mean that you won't be able to call a newly created group 'My contacts', which may not be ideal, but you can get creative in this instance, and maybe add a number at the end of the name so it isn't recognised as a duplicate group.

I cannot find where the group is embedded from, as even after downloading Google Contacts there is no Label called "My contacts". However, I found a solution to getting rid of it by manually removing each contact from that group. The group seems to have disappeared after doing so, but thank you so much for your help!
