Just a quick idea, why not create a TV mode whilst casting or connected via hdmi (similar to car mode)? Silence calls and make a small notification instead of whole screen etc. Also you could allow the use of the vr bluetooth remote independently of the vr headset and this could be used as navigation around TV instead of using phone
