Up to now I have used an iPhone and when I tap on the attachment it opens instantaneously.
When somebody sends me a Gmail email to my Galaxy A52, I tap on the attachment (Typically Word) but it does not open instantaneously I get a message like the attached below. Do I need to install additional software. E. G. Microsoft word mobile? Any help gratefully Received.

Yes, absolutely, you can't open any file type without a supporting app. It's no different to a PC in that respect.

Download any supported app from Play Store or Galaxy Store and open the file. For example, Word file requires Word app to open. If your issue is solved, please accept my comment as solution by clicking at 3 dots on my comment✅️
